What is ScanFactory
ScanFactory is iGuana's professional scanning service. We digitise paper archives at scale: from individual documents to entire archive rooms. Carried out by specialised operators with security clearance where required.
Scanning capabilities
Document scanning: A4 and A3 documents in high volumes with automatic feeding. Book scanning: bound books and registers without damage using specialised book scanners. Large format: technical drawings, blueprints, and plans up to A0+ size. Microfilm and microfiche: digitisation of microfilm, microfiche, and aperture cards. Cultural heritage: museum-quality digitisation of historical documents, maps, and artworks via our ArtFactory initiative.
Process: from paper to digital
Step 1: Inventory and project planning, including volume estimation and quality requirements. Step 2: Material preparation (removing staples, sorting, planning indexing). Step 3: Scanning with quality control per batch. Step 4: OCR processing and indexing for searchability. Step 5: Delivery in the desired format, optionally directly into iGuana iDM.
Quality standards (FADGI)
Our digitisation follows FADGI guidelines (Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative) for image quality. This ensures that digitised documents meet international archiving standards. Appropriate FADGI levels are applied depending on the material type and intended use.
On-site and off-site options
Off-site: materials are collected and processed in our secure scanning facility. On-site: our operators and equipment come to your location, ideal for confidential or sensitive documents that cannot leave the premises. In both cases, you receive a fully searchable digital archive.
