X-ray Digitisation with iGuana iDM X-ray Capture Module

Storing physical X-ray films is costly and inefficient. Films get lost, degrade with handling, and often have to travel with the patient. Hospitals and clinics have long needed a practical alternative. iGuana iDM X-ray Capture is that alternative: a dedicated module that digitises X-ray films quickly and reliably, making them immediately available within the iDM platform.
The module digitises each X-ray image in under 7 seconds. That speed makes it feasible to bring hundreds of thousands of existing films into the iGuana iDM archive without specialist equipment. Almost any standard desktop workstation in the hospital is sufficient. The result is a significant reduction in physical storage costs and staff time spent retrieving films.
Once scanned, images are instantly accessible through iDesk, the iGuana iDM interface for clinical staff. From any workstation in the hospital, authorised users can search, retrieve, view, measure, annotate and print X-ray images. There is no need to visit a central archive or wait for a film that is in use elsewhere.
For hospitals already running a PACS or RIS system, iGuana iDM provides full bidirectional integration via DICOM. Scanned films can be sent directly to the PACS or RIS system, while existing DICOM images from that system can be viewed inside iDesk. The integration fits into existing clinical workflows without requiring duplicate data entry.
Digital image management also supports GDPR-compliant handling of patient data. Access rights are managed centrally within iGuana iDM, ensuring only authorised staff can view patient images. Every access event is recorded in a full audit trail.
