Laboratory Form Processing Automated with iGuana iDM

Laboratory request forms sit at the heart of the diagnostic chain. A clinician completes a request, the laboratory acts on it, and the result shapes patient care. Yet those forms are frequently handwritten, sometimes ambiguous, and must feed accurately into a Laboratory Information System (LIS). Errors at any point carry real consequences.
iGuana iDM includes an integrated processing module for laboratory forms, built on TeleForm form-recognition software. TeleForm applies Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology to read handwritten marks and tick boxes on request forms with high accuracy. Each scanned form receives a unique barcode that keeps the request and the corresponding patient sample physically linked throughout the entire processing chain, eliminating mix-ups.
The system automatically identifies the form type and its version. This matters when your laboratory introduces a revised form layout: both old and new versions continue to be processed without interruption. When the software cannot read a marking with sufficient confidence, it assigns a verification task to a laboratory operator, ensuring no data is lost or entered incorrectly. The built-in WYSIWYG TeleForm Designer lets your team design and publish new form versions, including pre-printed identification details per department or requesting physician.
iGuana iDM ships with standard connectors for widely used laboratory information systems, including Glims, Labosys, Molis and Corlabs. Once data is validated, it is pushed automatically to your LIS for further processing. The platform scales with your throughput: whether your laboratory handles hundreds or tens of thousands of orders per day, you can add scanners, processing capacity and additional sites without rearchitecting the system. Electronic order forms are supported as well, enabling external clinicians to request analyses digitally.
After processing, iGuana iDM archives each form automatically in its healthcare document management repository. Authorised staff can retrieve archived forms quickly by patient ID, date or requesting physician.
